Club Camp, Czaplinek, April 27 - May 06, 2001
|
Attendees: Kordian Bartoszuk, Michał Chciuk, Tomek Chrzanowski, Paweł Gawroński, James Hancock, Romek Panek, Sebastian Sta¶kiewicz, Maria Waliszewska, Krzysztof "dink" Włodarski

With two club cars crashed, another - under headgasket repairs and few clubmembers with no cash and/or time we had to stop dreaming about gathering the greatest number of MR2s in one place in Poland. Initially conceived as The Great Springtime Meeting the event turned to be the Club Camp. Kordian, dink and Tomek settled in "Drawtur" camp site near the city of Czaplinek in north-western Poland. Day 1 Apr 27 |
The Arrival Not much to tell. We arrived with only one MR2 and one company Opel Corsa, had some late lunch and then fell asleep.
|
Day 2 Apr 28 |
The Pub Day
Rainy. But the bright side was a little surprise from dink - club t-shirts with a new logo arrived.
We decided to spend that day in the city - few rounds of pool & darts accompanied by grapefruit margheritas (dink's own prescription!) put us in a better mood. Then we managed to repair an old VCR and enjoyed "MR2DIE4: The Extreme Machines" movie. It was excellent and we played it over and over. [see the Gallery for trailer]
dink tested out his notebook/GPRS mobile setup. However we camped deep in the forests we were still able to surf on the Internet, send e-mails and generally be on-line. Isn't the new telecommunications thing great?
|
Day 3 Apr 29 |
The First Trip We did some cruising around lakes and shot few pics of birds. Paweł dropped by for a short visit in his red 2 with newly put set of Momo Ferrari Engineering wheels - colour matched centercaps looked really stunning!
|
Day 4 Apr 30 |
The Sunbath Excellent weather and lots of sun. We took some sunbathing while playing cards. In the evening we set a fire, had some grilled meat and few beers. Lots of talking about car-related and life-related matters.
|
Day 5 May 01 |
The Cormorant Rally Two more 2s arrived at noon with Romek, Ania, Sebastian and Michał. We spent the afternoon paddling around the lake and trying to get possibly close to cormorants to make good pictures. However we discovered that they were much quicker then MR2 drivers in canoes thus no pictures have been made.
|
Day 6 May 02 |
Under Jolly Roger We rented a yacht and spent that day on water. This was true test of patience for MR2 drivers since the wind died in the afternoon and we were moving veeery slow toward the shore. With so much time to waste, clubmembers were wildly joking all the time even in the face of death of starvation since we set off with no food and the journey took over 8 hours.
In the evening James arrived in his newly bought 2 and told us the story of his crash - he repeated the well-known scheme - too much power after shifting down on the bend & rough road surface sent his 2 spinning between road barriers. However he was going 160 kph he managed to survive with no injuries but the car has been written off.
|
Day 7 May 03 |
In the skies James, Kordian and dink went to Borne Sulinowo military area Soviet Army soldiers had abandoned in early 90s. We did some speeding on local straightways and arrived at moto-gliding challenges. There, in the gush of braveness dink decided to take a flight in moto-glider and watch a bunch of MR2s from 200 m overground. This was something!
|
Day 8 May 04 |
Camel Trophy We had some off-road driving that day and well... of course we managed to hang Kordian's 2 on muddy ruts. It took over an hour to bring it back to the road. We were jacking the car up then putting some wood and stones under wheels to make enough friction to drive. And finally we've put the MR2 on the solid ground however it looked dirty like Camel Trophy Land Rover.
Ah, the one thing - Volvo jacks are crap! The new one, never used before broke to pieces after few tries of lifting up 1250 kgs MR2. So "use only original Toyota equipment" :) This is not an ad of course, but Volvo has dissapointed us deeply...
|
Day 9 May 05 |
Lazy day Weather broke down that day. Clouds. Rain. Kordian went off to make some pics in the woods. dink toyed with his notebook. Later we played some rounds of darts and finally we found ourselves in local disco-club.
Angelika, Ania, Kasia, Krzysiek and Rafał (all from Czaplinek city) - thank you for your company - we had a great time!
|
Day 10 May 06 |
Farewell to Czaplinek After the last night party we woke up pretty late. Packing the stuff and cleaning the bungalow also took us some time. Close to the 4 PM we set off home...
|
|
This is the old truth that unplanned events are the nicest. However we failed to gather the greatest number of MR2s in one time and place, we succeeded to enjoy the time spent we other MR2 freaks.
|
Special thanx must go to Kordian for handling all the organizational matters. Everything was set up perfectly, even the weather, when needed, was excellent. Thank you very much and keep up the good work!
...and the MR2 in the header picture is Kordian's "Mieæka"... :)
